55 stars for Ecover washing-up liquid

Short version: Buy it, it doesn't smell strong like Fairy, doesn't leave soap residue on your pans and dishes which can transfer to the food giving it a soapy taste, and it's gentle on the skin while removing grease as well as Fairy.

Long version:
I've been a loyal fan of Fairy washing-up liquid for as long as I moved to the UK and started doing my dishes, which has been a while. The problem I always had was with the smell, Fairy just smells too strong, but I kept buying it because of its cleaning power, "it lasts for ages" just like the ad says.

Then, I started noticing a soapy taste on the pans I cooked my food in, and this taste had the same smell of the Fairy version I purchased. Then I noticed that no matter how well you rinsed your stuff, there would always be residue because Fairy is so strong. I realised how bad that is, I mean having soap on your dishes isn't abnormal, something will obviously remain unless you rinse everything with a pressure hose, but the problem is the strength, when it starts affecting the taste of your omelette, you know it's time to move on. Fairy was so strong that the skin on my hands always became flakey after doing the washing, then they started itching, even if I washed using cold water. Time to move on indeed... but which brand should I go for?

I never used others so I never had anything to compare to, I decided to go for the cheapest "bulk" option here, which is this product. I received it, have been using for a couple of days and it's wonderful. Its smell is citrusy but not strong, the consistency is more runny which is great and less messy to deal with, the sponge absorbs it easier and it's easier to rinse off the stuff I'm washing. The washing performance is just as Fairy's performance as I tried it on an empty bowl where scoops of summer berries gelato was served, and it removed the red stains just fine. I also tried it on a grill pan that I used to grill chicken breasts and it removed all the burnt up pieces that always stay on grill pans, and Ecover removed them successfully.

With more stubborn stains and residue, I needed to leave the dirty stuff soaking under water overnight before I used Fairy, and with Ecover I still have to do that, so there's no compromises or advantages cleaning-wise.

What Ecover did though, was to stop the lingering smell of soap on the pans I washed, there's no more smells and my food does not taste soapy anymore, I'm still doing the washing-up like before. A great advantage was that my hands stopped getting flakey and the itching also stopped, so Ecover is totally worth it in my opinion because it cleans well and doesn't destroy your skin.

I will keep buying this product for as long as its quality remains, and will recommend to buyers. I will update my review in case the product quality decreases but I am confident that it will not. Buying this with subscription saved me 10% and you can cancel the subscription once you place the order and still keep the discount, so I recommend that for money-saving folks. Make sure you rinse your old detergent container before pouring the Ecover inside it, so it doesn't get mixed up with the old stuff's residue.
